Developing excellence in learning and teaching with NAHT Aspire
The course provides a clear method to improve teaching and learning that is welcomed by teachers. It is designed for headteachers, senior or subject leaders from primary, secondary and special schools.
This course builds leadership capacity to create exemplary teaching and learning. It provides delegates with the NAHT Aspire Quality Framework for Learning and Teaching and explores how it can be used to develop excellence. The approach replaces the difficulties of lesson observation, planning and work scrutiny with a more positive method that is welcomed by teachers and informs leaders better.
It can be used by phase/year and subject leaders as well as senior leaders with individual teachers, teams or whole school staff. Teachers report enthusiastically, taking accountability for their own improvement and seeking further impact from their teaching. Leaders say that it brings greater impact to their leadership and saves them time.
The programme for the day covers:
Introduction to the Quality Framework for Learning and Teaching (QFLT)
Exploring the uses and application of the QFLT
Introducing Learning Conversations
Triangulating planning, teaching and assessment with learning conversations
Programming conversations as a leader
Combining Learning Conversations with Lesson visits
Using the QFLT to drive professional development at school, team and individual levels
Training the trainers – introducing the QFLT and learning conversations in your school

David Herbert – Course Leader
David Herbert is an Achievement Adviser with EdisonLearning and contributory writer of the Quality Framework for Learning and Teaching. He has introduced the Framework approach in Primary, Secondary and Special schools to more than 3,000 teachers with positive feedback. He currently supports in-school implementation working with leaders, teachers and support staff to build exemplary impact. He has previously been a Primary Headteacher and Ofsted inspector and has written professional development materials for DfES, NAHT, Local Authorities and MATs.

The course programme will be sent to each delegate via the email supplied with the final information. The NAHT Aspire team has the right to cancel the course if insufficient bookings are received. The NAHT Aspire team also reserves the right to change the venue prior to the scheduled date, and in this event will communicate any alterations as soon as possible.
